Flipped Classroom...

Resources for Flipping Classrooms

The above video may seem long, but Keith Hughes (a Social Studies Teacher at McKinnley HS, and Buffalo State classmate of mine) has put together this video from soup to nuts about flipping classrooms.

Have you heard about Flipping Classrooms??  Over the summer, Sweet Home was introduced to Jon Bergmann and his work with Aaron Sams.  Both are high school science teachers who decided they needed to do something different.  Over 50 participants were introduced to their philosophy that I can summarize with one simple point: what is the best ue of your face-to-face class time?

If you get your hands on a copy of "Flip your classroom: reach every student, in every class, every day," you will quickly find that flipping your classroom is not just about making videos.

It started with a simple observation:  Students need their teacher to present to answer questions or to provide help if they get stuck on an assignment; they don't need their teachers present to listen to a lecture or review content.  From there Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams negan the flipped classroom: Students watched recorded lectures for homework and completed their assignments, labs, and tests in class with their teacher available.

Bergmann and Sams found that their students demonstrated a deeper understanding of the material than ever before.  Learn what a flipped classroom is and why it works, and get the information you need to flip your own classroom.  You'll also alearn the flipped mastery model, where students learn at their own pace.

Once you flip, you won't go back!
